Through the process of electrolysis or electrochemical activation, salt water is transformed into hypochlorous acid, a disinfectant that has a high bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal effectiveness (approximately 10 times stronger than chlorine dioxide) and compared to other common disinfecting substances, it is non-corrosive, non-irritating and non-harmful. The active ingredient in the resulting solution is hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a naturally occurring acid also generated by the human body to fight infections. It acts against pathogens through a process called phagocytosis. Basically, the cell membrane bursts and destroys the DNA, so the virus or bacteria do not generate mutations or growth.
